Thumbs Up Trophy

A couple of years ago, we observed how people responded to different awards at a company event. The winning team got a tall trophy and everyone clapped. The losing teams got nothing but a handshake. Then we spoke to some of the players on the losing team. They weren't mad about losing. They were angry that their work was not recognized even at all. The event was supposed to be about participation, but the awards were only about winning.

This is the point where we began offering the Thumbs-Up Trophy as an option to our clients. It's not about who came first. Who showed up and who contributed. The shape communicates a message on its own.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Clear crystal cut in the shape of a hand, thumb raised. Under it is the resin base that acts as a visual anchor. Size 19×16×4cm, weight about 980g. The crystal is polished so the shape of the hand is clearly visible from any angle. The thumb is prominent, the first thing to meet the eye even across a room.

The crystal is not a flat object. It has depth, thickness. The light shines through it and picks up the edges of the hand shape. The base of resin is solid, and usually dark in color, contrasting with the transparent crystal above.

The crystal has laser-etched text, team names, department titles, the year. The engraving is there, just beneath the surface, forever to be read. The color printing is applied to the resin base and not to the crystal. This keeps the crystal clean and provides a stable opaque background for the printed artwork to sit on. Most awards are hierarchical. The bigger, the better. Number one is gold. Second is silver. The Thumbs-Up Trophy doesn't work that way. It has one shape, one message: "we saw what you did."
